Our ecosystems are wildly interconnected, MANG. When we alter one thing, like mangroves, it can affect all the other life around it. Mangroves are “commensal” with their surrounding flora and fauna, meaning they provide a benefit to the flora and fauna around them, from oysters and seagrasses to fish, fiddler crabs, beach mice, and big cats, like jaguars. 

This unique mandala design depicts how mangroves are a keystone, commensal species to coastal ecosystems across the world. In honor of the Brevard Zoo’s world-class conservation team, the design incorporates native Florida species like jaguars, scrub jays, and the endangered Perdido Key beach mouse.
